A Royal Occasion
Wednesday 17th March, Leicester Animal Aid received a very special visitor to the Centre, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester.
Her Royal Highness arrived at the Centre at 1.45pm and was greeted by the General Manager of the Centre, Miss Keely Short. Keely then presented HRH The Duchess of Gloucester to The Chairman of Leicester Animal Aid, Miss Anne Martin, along with several dignitaries and guests including Mr. Roger Wilson, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council and Councillor Bailey, Chairman of Blaby District Council.
Her Royal Highness was then given a tour of the site which included meeting several volunteers that help with dog walking and in the cattery. The tour also included a look in the kennel blocks and the new chill out rooms on site where HRH The Duchess of Gloucester spoke to members of staff about the work they do.
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester then met Mrs. Toni Cox, who is head of English at Kibworth High School and two pupils from the school, Anna Goodman and Becky Bosence, as the school have been involved with fundraising for Leicester Animal Aid and raised over £600 in 2009.
Her Royal Highness then visited the on site Charity shop and spoke to several volunteers who help sort goods and serve in the shop.
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester then unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit and accepted a “Telling Tails” book from Miss Short, a book written to mark the 50th anniversary of the Charity.
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester left the Centre at approximately 2.30pm.
Keely Short commented “We feel extremely honoured to receive such a distinguished guest and delighted that so many of our guests and supporters attended to greet HRH The Duchess of Gloucester. We hope she enjoyed her time here as we certainly enjoyed her company”
